Have you ever heard of a parasite called a penis worm? Yeah, neither had we until this morning.
Penis worms are ancient phallic parasites that were able to turn themselves inside out and burrow into and devour their prey using their throats, which were lined with sharp teeth. How sharp? Razor sharp. Metal cheese grater sharp.
On Wednesday, the University of Cambridge published a handbook covering the teeth of these frightening worms in the journal of Palaeontology
These gluttonous predators would literally wolf down anything in their path, including other worms and marine organisms.
Thankfully, penis worms can only be found living in extreme underwater environments. So, there’s no need to worry about one of them burrowing under your skin and eating you from the inside out.
