The week before the poll taken between the 22nd and the 24th of July saw Hillary Clinton in the lead with 2 points for the position of president but after information surfaced in the form of hacked emails which pointed to the fact that officials from the Democratic National Committee was working to undermine the candidacy of Bernie Sanders those numbers dwindled. The chairwoman of the DNC, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, has announced her intention of resigning after the convention.
In polls that were released on Monday Trump had the upper hand over Clinton with two points nationally, this straight after the Republican National Congress and at the very start of the Democratic National Congress that opened in Philadelphia. Trump was shown to lead over Clinton with numbers of 44%-40% at the Morning Consult Poll. This poll saw more support for Trump among the Republicans. He can expect 85% of the republican votes as opposed to only 79% in the previous week. CNN said that this has been the best results for Trump since September of 2015. He saw increased support from Independents too with 43% saying that they are more willing to vote for him post Republican Convention.
An incident such as the undermining of Bernie Sanders’ candidacy is sure to put the individuals responsible in a bad light and to see exactly what the extent of the damage to Clinton’s campaign is because of this incident remains to be seen. If her support keeps showing this decline she will not have any supporters by the time the election is to take place but luckily for her this seems quite unlikely if she plays her cards right.
Even though she is not in the lead for now, these two have been switching positions continuously with the one and then the other taking the lead over the past two months but Clinton has been in the lead most of the time. Trump’s latest rise in support figures may very well have to do with his campaign that saw him reaching out to minorities like African-Americans and Mexican-Americans. Seems like a lot of people has already forgotten his racial slurs or they are gullible enough to believe his fake promises and masked intentions. Whatever the case may be, it seems that he had been forgiven by some for calling Mexicans people with problems, stating that those problems are brought along when they are sent to America. He says they bring along all their problems including drugs, crime and rapists.
Neither of these candidates are ideal for the presidential post but people are voting for them not because they trust them but rather as opposed to the other party. In other words, they are not particularly voting for one party but against the other.
