$1,000 Reward to Find Abuser(s) of a Muzzled Dog That May Lose Tongue

Animal abuse is disgusting, but it’s even more horrifying when the dog is friendly with the entire neighborhood and no one can figure out who caused the animal such painful and irreversible bodily harm. A muzzled dog this defenseless creature was never meant to be!

Caityln, a 15-month-old Chocolate Staffie mix, was found with electrical tape wound around her muzzle, according to the Charleston Animal Society in South Carolina. She’s suffering and may lose part of her tongue.

“The tape was so tight, that Caityln’s tongue was caught between her teeth, stopping blood flow to her tongue,” the society wrote on Facebook. They also says that the tape must’ve been on the dog “for up to 36-48 hours.”

Caitlyn was a stray in the Chicora Cherokee neighborhood, according to the animal society, and was known as being friendly. It’s unknown who did this or why.

“Caitlyn is in a lot of pain, her condition is critical, and her prognosis is guarded,” said Charleston Animal Society Senior Director of Veterinary Care Lucy Fuller. “A large part of her tongue may need to be removed surgically if the tissue dies from the lack of blood flow. She may be severely disfigured, or the large amount of dead tissue may cause life-threatening complications. ”

North Charleston Animal Control is investigating the case, offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. If you live in the area and know anything, please call the animal control center.
