It’s common knowledge that animators are often inspired by the actors who play their character’s voices. It can influence how the characters move and act on screen — just think of the Genie in Aladdin, voiced by Robin Williams, as a prime example.
The same holds true for both heroes and villains, as shown in this “Disney Villains In Real Life” video from Buzzfeed.
Pat Carroll is known for having influenced the facial expression and body movement (due to her amazing voice) for Ursula in The Little Mermaid, though it’s also widely acknowledged that legendary drag actor Divine was also used as inspiration for the undersea witch’s design. But when looking at this video, it’s stunning how many of the actors clearly had influence over the facial expressions. From Eartha Kitt who played Yzma in Emperor’s New Groove (one of the best movies Disney Animation ever produced, which never gets the credit it deserves) to Hans Jeremy Irons as Scar in The Lion King, there are some amazing similarities.
