Alexis Boroviak, 15 from Ohio, was finally found alive and rescued after she was held against her will for almost a month. According to reports, Boroviak was found in Marthasville, Missouri, more than 500 miles from her home in Ohio.
A 41-year-old man named Chris Schroeder has been arrested in connection to the case and is facing multiple charges for Boroviak’s kidnapping.
It is believed that Boroviak met Schroeder online, and then was persuade to meet him in person.
Schroeder then allegedly took her to his home—about nine hours away from where she lives— where the nightmare of 23 days began. Schroeder confiscated her phone and destroyed the SIM card inside, cutting her off from the outside world.
He forced her to clean for him, and verbally, physically and sexually assaulted and raped her. He also recording various sex acts between the pair on video, according to authorities.
Boroviak told investigators that Schroeder had guns, and when he refused to let her go home she was afraid of what he might do.
According to information released by the FBI, the duo met on Kik, a social media messaging app. During their exchanges, Boroviak said she was unhappy at home.
Boroviak’s case made national headlines when actor Nicholas Cage posed for a photo with her stepfather, and was photographed holding a missing persons sign with Boroviak’s picture on it to bring attention to her case.
Following leads in the investigation, Boroviak was finally found safe and rescued when authorities executed a search warrant this week.
Schroeder reportedly faces both state and federal charges, and is being held in a Missouri jail.
