We’ve all has a bad day at work, and these moments can drive you absolutely crazy. Maybe it’s a bothersome coworker, annoying customers, or things just not working the way they’re supposed to — but whatever it is that sets you off, it can really get under your skin.
What’s the solution? Drinking, that always helps, and it’s probably why Happy Hour was invented. But another sure way to turn that frown upside down is to watch the funny struggles other people are going through in their line of work.
The Germans have a word for this: Schadenfreude. According to Wikipedia (which isn’t always 100% accurate, but seems to be in this case), schadenfreude is defined as pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others. “This word is taken from German and literally means ‘harm-joy.’ It is the feeling of joy or pleasure when one sees another fail or suffer misfortune. It is also borrowed by some other languages.”
Enter the folks at Buzzfeed, who decided to make a video featuring 19 people having such a bad day at work that you can’t help but feel a teeny, tiny bit better about your own situation. Yes, it’s a little bit juvenile, but it’s true.
