15. Fear of Long Words (Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia)
The fear of long words has been once considered a fictional phobia from those who just can’t wrap their heads around the fear. However, Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia is as real as any. This fear can stem from as far a childhood “popcorn reading,” wherein you’d be selected at random during class to read a portion of text. This phobia can be heightened by the pressure and fear of mispronouncing a long word.
