48th Academy of Country Music Awards: Winners and Highlights

Last night Las Vegas, Nevada was all about country music as the biggest and the brightest in the industry got together for a night of live entertainment and recognition at the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.

Hosted by funny men Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan, the event showcased the best music from new country stars like Florida Georgia Line and long time vets like Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney. The performances ranged from energetic to heartbreaking, but the collabo performance between Garth Brooks and George Strait (included above) was the most powerful one, as the two country heavy weights paid tribute to the late Dick Clark, the show’s executive producer since 1979, who died last year.

As for the winners, Miranda Lambert kept up her reign as the queen of country, taking home the most awards of the night in three categories. Florida Georgia Line, Brantley Gilbert and fiancé Jana Kramer were each vying for the new artist of the year, which ultimately went to the two-man band, Florida Georgia Line. Luke Bryan was the biggest winner of the night as the Entertainer of the Year, beating Jason Aldean, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton and Taylor Swift.

Speaking of Taylor Swift, the 23-year-old who has a history of winning big at the show, went home empty-handed this year despite getting four nominations.
