Study Shows How to Create a Winning Online Dating Profile

If you’ve ever looked for love on a dating site, you know the process can be a somewhat frustrating one. Whether you’re hoping your profile catches the right person’s eye or you are sifting through potential matches, it’s a rare occurrence that you find and meet your perfect guy or girl with ease.

There are thousands of people hoping to land a potential romantic connection online and with so many profiles, pictures and bios, it’s easy to get lost in the mix, even when there are some really great people out there. You’ve probably experienced this yourself when looking at other people’s profiles – some are great, while the rest are forgotten as soon as you leave their page.

So how do you make sure you’re not part of the latter category when creating a profile? How do you maximize your chances of being noticed and getting someone’s interest? That’s what the folks over at WIRED wanted to know so they got together with the popular dating sites OkCupid and Match.com and gathered a ton of data to analyze and find what makes one profile get more action than another. They broke down the different features of a profile to see what the most successful ones had in common, and they paid special interest to what types of words get the biggest reactions, what kinds of pictures do well, and what types of things seem to be turn-offs.

After looking at 400 of the most popular OkCupid profiles, and analyzing the 1000 most popular keywords, they were able to compile a list of things that you should keep in mind when crafting your online dating profile and boost your chances of finding that right guy or girl (or at least get a few more hits on your page).

Check out the slideshow above for great tips for both women and men, and head over to WIRED if you want to learn more about the study.
