One of the strangest fires in U.S. history broke out at a Virginia crematorium on Wednesday. A 500 pound body was likely the culprit, as it may have caused excessive heat and oil during the cremation process.
“The Henrico Fire Marshal’s office has determined the cause of the fire to have been accidental in nature,” said Henrico Fire spokesman Capt. Daniel Rosenbaum. “The rubber roofing near the smoke stack was ignited by the heat of the stack.”
There were three live people in the office at the time, and they were able to escape without injuries.
