“It was the night I slept with 14 men that I first started to try to work out how many partners I’ve been with.”
Such is the sexual history of 63-year-old Marie Calvert. It began quietly enough — until she was 28, she had only had sex with one person, her husband Barry.
More than 30 years ago, the couple decided to submerge themselves in the swinging scene, a decision sparked by a raunchy magazine her husband brought home one night.
She explains in The Guardian:
Until the age of 28, I’d only been with him and we had a terrific sex life, but one day he brought home a swingers’ magazine he’d picked up from a workmate. He sort of joked we should try it; I told him not to be daft, and he never mentioned it again.
But I kept looking at the mag and imagining how fun it might be. Eventually I told him we should give it a go. He looked like a kid at Christmas.
Marie now believes that it’s not natural to be restricted to only one sexual partner for 60 years. Her and her husband don’t put sex on a pedestal, she says, but treat it is “separate from love.”
Today the Calverts have set up their own swingers’ club in Sheffield in England. In trying to guess how many men she’s slept with, “My conservative estimate is about 100 guys a year for more than three decades.”
So, about 3,000-plus people. Read more about Marie’s escapades in The Guardian.
