A German grandmother is now the oldest woman to ever give birth to quadruplets. At 65-years-old Annegret Raunigk gave birth to three boys and a girl, making her total count of children 17. Not to mention she also has seven grandchildren. Annegret gave birth to her four premature babies by C-section after being pregnant for just 26 weeks.
The single mother used in vitro fertilization and donated eggs to get pregnant. Once she found out she would be having four babies doctors encouraged her to abort at least two of the fertilized eggs, but Annegret wanted to keep all of them.
The mother claims the only reason she got pregnant was for her 10-year-old daughter who wanted to have younger siblings, but Annegret also loves being a mother and couldn’t turn down the chance to have more children. She told CNN that it’s her kids that give her her youth. “I myself find life with children great, you constantly have to live up to new challenges. And that probably also keeps you young.”
While Annegret Raunigk is the oldest woman to ever give birth to quadruplets, she is not the oldest woman to ever give birth. Rajo Devi Lohan had her first baby at 70-years-old in India seven years ago.
