A 5-year-old boy brings a restaurant to tears this week through a selfless act of kindness.
Josiah Duncan was with his mother when he saw a homeless man sitting inside a Waffle House in Prattville, Alabama. The 5-year-old boy began to question his mom about homeless people and how the lives of those who are homeless are different from those who are not.
Ava Faulk started to explain to her son that often times homeless people do not have a lot of food. This upset little Josiah. He begged his mom to buy the man a meal at the Waffle House. Ava told WSFA what happened next: “He came in and sat down, and nobody really waited on him. So Josiah jumped up and asked him if he needed a menu because you can’t order without one.”
While the homeless man insisted on getting a cheap hamburger, Ava and her son reassured the man that he could order anything he wanted. He ordered a hamburger with bacon. However, it wasn’t just this kind gesture that got the restaurant emotional, but what happened after the food came and before he started eating.
Josiah wanted to say grace with the man, so he sang this blessing: “God our Father, God our Father, we thank you, we thank you, for our many blessings, for our many blessings, Amen, Amen.”
Ava said that this is what really touched her, the homeless man and all the customers watching inside the restaurant. “The man cried. I cried. Everybody cried.”
In her email to the news station Josiah’s mom described how this is a moment she will never forget. “Watching my son touch the 11 people in that Waffle House tonight will be forever one of the greatest accomplishments as a parent I’ll ever get to witness.”
