The Texas Student Who Got Arrested for Making a Clock Is Blowing Up the Internet

Ahmed Mohamed, a 9th grader, brought in a homemade clock he’d made to school. He thought his precocious gift at engineering would make his teachers proud, but they called the police and had him arrested instead. No, really!

Since his arrest (he’s been let go without being charged, of course), Ahmed has acquired hundreds of followers. On Twitter, the hashtag #IStandWithAhmed is blowing up the Internet, excuse the pun. It’s also made Obama take a look at this poor boy’s humiliating experience.

On Twitter Obama wrote: “Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great.”

Not only that but Mark Zuckerberg has invited the student to Facebook headquarters.

It’s nice to see that not everyone blames the African-American student of being a bomb-maker just because he’s Muslim.

As for his family, they’re also very supportive of Ahmed and are transferring him to a different school. We wonder if they’ll sue for the awful treatment of their son. We’ll be sure to update you on that news.
