Let’s hope the full video (below) stays on our site because the ladies of Alpha Phi sorority University of Alabama keep ripping down all copies of it found on YouTube. Get your fill of it here before it completely vanishes from YouTube (Just kidding, worry not: we made a copy so you can find it on our site even if they pull it).
The reason the women of Alpha Phi are trying to hide this video is because there’s been a major backlash to what they thought was a fun and flirty way of getting other girls to join their sorority in this sexy recruitment video. Basically, these gals are getting hazed by the media. Many people find the footage to be sexist and racist, and the media is totally condemning the girls in this sorority for their “hyper-femininity,” “hyper-sexualization” and “homogeneity.”
Basically, many people are furious and think that this group of mostly-blonde and definitely very white girls is a slap in the face of diversity. They say that it shows that this group of girls clearly only welcomes “their own”. Basically, folks think these girls are racists encouraging racism.
As for claims that there’s too much sexualization of the young women and their sisterhood, it’s true that the video resembles a tour of the Playboy mansion more than it does an invite to join a club at a college. But is it so wrong that these girls like to shake what their mamas gave them?
We want to hear from you on this topic: Is this just a harmless video of a bunch of attractive young women playing with their new and undeniable sexual power or are they degrading and setting women back many years as some critics have claimed? Are they just a group of females who’ve found others they have many things in common with or are they exclusive and racist?
