Back in the 1980s, when CNN launched, founder Ted Turner planned for the apocalypse, the end of days.
“Barring satellite problems, we won’t be signing off until the world ends,” he reportedly said. “When the end of the world comes, we’ll play ‘Nearer My God To Thee’ before we sign off.”
He created the grainy, standard-definition video you see above, which shows the Armed Forces marching band playing in front of a pool of water.
Writer Michael Ballaban posted the minute-long clip, titled “Turner Doomsday Video,” on Jalopnik. He allegedly stumbled upon the video in 2009 while interning for Wolf Blitzer at The Situation Room.
We don’t know about you, but this is definitely not the last thing we’d want to see before we died. But then again, who the hell is going to be watching television during the apocalypse?
