Baby Born with Four Arms and Four Legs, Undergoes Major Operation

The Global Times reports that a baby was born with four arms and four legs. Born April 2 in the Guangdong Province of China, the toddler underwent a successful surgery on Friday to have the extra limbs removed. He is now is stable condition.

According to Yu Jiakang, chief surgeon at Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center, the extra limbs were the result of the baby being joined at the torso by a headless parasitic twin. Prior to the baby being born, his abnormality wasn’t detected in routine examinations.

In a heartfelt statement, the father of the baby (identified as “Mr. Chen”) told ImagineChina that he takes the blame. “I only cared for my work,” he said. “I just thought of making money instead of taking my wife to the hospital for a medical checkup.” While the mother was said to have seen the doctor five times, he doesn’t feel that was enough.
