Baby Born with Half a Heart Survives 9 Surgeries, Finally Back Home with Mom and Dad

His name is Jack Stevens. Although he’s only 15-months-old, he’s already endured a stroke and four open heart surgeries.

Jack was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), which means the left side of his heart wasn’t able to function properly.

When he was just a week old, he went under the knife for the first time so doctors could improve his blood flow. So far, he has spent about half of his life in and out of hospitals. Let’s just say this little guy is one tough cookie.

There have even been three occasions where his heart stopped and he needed to be resuscitated.

Despite going through more ordeals than most folks experience in their lifetime, and forced to take medications daily, Jack is still all giggles and smiles.

“He’s been through so much in such a short space of time but he’s doing brilliantly,” said Jack’s father. “We knew about his condition before he was born and he spent the first five months of his life in hospital. We’re both so proud of him – he’s a very inspirational boy.”
