A 9-year-old Chinese boy lost his arm during a visit to a zoo in central China. The boy was reportedly trying to feed the bear through the bars of its cage when the bear came up and bit his arm off.
SCMP reports that the boy, name unknown, was visiting the Pingdingshan Hebin Park in Henan province on Saturday afternoon when the incident occurred. He came with his grandfather, but he was apparently exploring on his own when he came across an exhibit featuring an Asian black bear.
After the bear attacked, the boy was rushed to the nearby Pingdingsham Number 152 Hospital where doctors amputated what remained of his right arm. He is now in stable condition at the hospital.
A spokesman for the zoo said they are actively working to assist the boy’s family with his steep medical costs.
