To Become a Firefighter, You Have to Survive the Terrifying Worm Tube (VIDEO)

If you’re anything like the majority of us, you get claustrophobic in tight spaces.

In this excerpt from A Firefighter’s Journey, a documentary about the fire academy experience, you’ll see just a fraction of what it takes to become a firefighter.

The training exercise highlighted in the clip is called the worm tube. It’s basically confined space training, but also a tool for departments to help weed out trainees with claustrophobia issues.

As you can see, going through the worm tube causes panic to set in. When this happens, it’s easy for people to suck their entire tank dry — unable to remove their SCBA mask.

We had a difficult time breathing and staying calm just watching him crawl his way out to the other end!
