If you’ve been patiently waiting to pick up a 2012 model car, the wait is over. This weekend car customers can expect to see an 8-10 percent discount on all 2012 vehicles.
And, that’s only the beginning. Many cars will have additional rebates and discounts.
Jesse Toprak of California-based car pricing website TrueCar.com says you can still pick up some 2012 models early next year for a steal—but your options on the type of car you want (including certain colors and features) will be limited.
Kelly Blue Book, the official website of car values and pricing, says certain vehicles over others will reap the most savings.
Trucks and SUVs have a larger inventory to get rid of, and more than 100 days in which to do it. Because of the supply and time frame, dealers are pulling out the big guns to empty their lots, with rebates anywhere from $6,500 to $8000.
So, if you’ve been waiting to purchase a larger car, now is the time to do so, especially with gas prices continuing to drop down from record highs.
Dealers are also looking to add to their used car inventory, so if you have a fuel efficient car, two to six years old with less than 60,000 miles on it, you may want to see what a trade-in could get you.

Remember that a car is a big purchase, and it’s going to be with you for some time, so take future expectations into consideration. For example, you won’t want to purchase a small vehicle if you plan to start a family, or a larg gas guzzler if you take a job with a long commute.
Toprak says to pick the car that meets your needs and your budget, and not what has the biggest discount.
