Places from Above: A Bird’s Eye View of Our Diversely Beautiful World

If we were to take a closer look at our world, we would see that it is a magically diverse and beautiful place.

We would surely fall in love with it.

Alive with both man-made and natural landscapes, the Earth has a story to tell.

The sheer majesty of these places, some located in far, tucked away corners, will take your breath away.

With the assistance of aerial photography, we are able to witness a drastically altered perspective of these destinations — one much more profound than viewing them from the ground. Most photographers prefer taking pictures like these from hot-air balloons, helicopters, gliders, or very tall structures.

Some of the aerial photographs of landscapes included in the slideshow above appear to be mythical places people only daydream about, while others offer up the world from an entirely different angle and explore the crowded, polluted cities that continue to threaten the health of countless people, as well as the planet’s biodiversity.

These locations, captured from a birds eye view, range from industrialized cities, desert mirages, pristine coastlines, hilltop villages, as well as natural and man-made wonders, such as the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park and the Pyramids of Giza.

A little change in perspective, along with visually powerful images, have the power to move mountains, or at least make you feel as if you’re standing on top of one and looking down upon a vastly beautiful landscape.
