These days, news reports are chock full of headlines relating to police misconduct, especially after many departments began requiring that their officers wear a body cam while on duty.
But not all cops are crooked. Sometimes, heroic acts are caught on camera.
Recently, Patrolman Timothy Novak of the Fairport Police Department received the Medal of Honor “for an outstanding act of heroism in the line of duty, at imminent personal hazard of life with full knowledge of the risk involved,” according to Willowick Police Chief Michael Lazor.
On October 14, Novak was the first officer to arrive on the scene of an apartment fire.
After discovering the resident was still trapped inside, he immediately took action and broke through the front door.
Thankfully, he was able to rescue the man, who suffered burns over 30 percent of his body.
