Fans went wild when it was revealed this week Boy Meets World would have a spin-off on The Disney Channel titled Girl Meets World.
The new show would focus on Riley Matthews, the 13-year-old daughter of Cory and Topanga and her best friend Maya.
When Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel officially signed on to reprise their old roles, we waited with bated breath to see if Ryder Strong would come back as well.
How could there be a GMW without Shawn Hunter?
Unfortunately, Ryder Strong says thanks, but no thanks. He has no plans at this time to appear on the show.
Strong did tell The Insider exclusively what being on BMW meant to him though.
“I can’t express enough gratitude to the BMW fans, who not only watched our show when it first aired, but who continue to watch it, spread the word, and even introduce it to their children. It’s an overwhelming feeling to have that kind of support for something we did over a decade ago.”
He went on to say how “BMW was a defining aspect of my life, and I cherish those seven years. It was never just a job—on a personal level, many of my best memories and friendships were formed because of it.”
Now, here comes the deflating proclamation.
“So I am extremely happy for Ben and Danielle to be able to continue the story. At this point, I have no official involvement in Girl Meets World. There might be a chance to see some of the BMW cast in a guest spot, and I think it would be nice to find out where our characters have been all these years. But Girl Meets World will be, and I think it should be, its own show. It will be about Cory and Topanga, their daughter, and a new set of characters.”
So, there you go loyal fans. It will be interesting to see how a grown-up Cory goes through life without his lifetime partner-in-crime, Shawn.
Here’s hoping we see a guest appearance by Mr. Feeny!
