When Chilean police raided the home of 50-year-old mother of two Angelica Navarro Pereira, they discovered marijuana in more than a few unlikely places. Most notably, the drug dealing mother used an oversized cannabis plant instead of a pine tree as her holiday centerpiece.
Authorities in the southern province of Maipo raided Pereira’s home after extensive investigations against the drug-dealer. Their search through her San Bernardo home turned up shotguns, thousands of dollars in cash, 21 five-foot cannabis plants, and 29 bags of hash, the Mirror reports which cleverly noted that Pereira was planning to have a “green Christmas.”
“We had been investigating this woman for over a month,” said a police spokesman. “We suspected she was involved in trafficking and when we had enough proof we carried out our raid. We expected to find some drugs, but the last thing we expected to see was one of the plants being used as a Christmas tree.”
One of the woman’s neighbors told local news outlets he had known her for years without ever suspecting she might be into something like this.
When I spoke to her yesterday she said her children were going to really enjoy Christmas this year and that she had the best tree in the world,” neighbor Renato Quinez said. “She didn’t invite me to see it though, and thinking about it I don’t remember seeing her taking one in. Now I know why.”
Pereira was sentenced to 70 days in jail, so she’ll miss what surely would have been a Christmas to remember.
