People magazine reports today that Catherine Zeta-Jones, 43 and Michael Douglas, 68 have taken some time apart.
Married since 2000, sources say the power couple haven’t been seen together publicly since the Barbra Streisand tribute in Apil, but so far, neither star has filed for divorce or tried to legally separate, but that “they’re taking a break.”
Zeta-Jones was seen on the red carpet alone and both have been seen on vacations with their children, Dylan, 13, and Carys 10, but never together.
A friend tells People, between Douglas’ three-year battle with throat cancer, and Zeta-Jones’ struggle with bi-polar II disorder, the stress has taken its toll on their relationship.
According to People, the 68-year-old Douglas’ frank comments about the cause of his throat cancer –he blamed it on a virus he contracted during oral sex – may have been one of the factors contributing to the alleged rift.
People also claims that the incarceration of Douglas’ oldest son, Cameron, who pleaded guilty to selling bulk quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine, also created tension between Douglas and Zeta-Jones.
A few other celeb rags have reported rocky patches for Zeta-Jones and Douglas, but nothing has been as concrete as People’s latest report.
