Each one of the following women has a different story and different reaction to having one or more abortions. Some are filled with deep regret whereas others feel it was the best decision they could’ve made.

Nicki Minaj
In a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Nicki Minaj revealed that she had an abortion in high school. “I thought I was going to die,” she said of her feeling at the time. “It was the hardest thing I have ever gone through…It has haunted me all my life. I wasn’t ready. I didn’t have anything to offer a child.”

Chelsea Handler
The late-night comedian has has spoken openly about her abortion at age 16.

Sharon Osbourne
Osbourne has claimed that the biggest mistake of her life was having an abortion at age 17. She believes that three later miscarriages were caused by damage to her body during the termination. She did succeed in becoming a mom, though, with her three children, Aimee, Jack, and Kelly.

Whoopi Goldberg
Goldberg says that she terminated her own pregnancy with a coathanger at the age of 14. She had her daughter Alexandrea when she was 17, and became a grandmother at age 34 when Alexandrea gave birth at age 16.

Vanessa Williams
The singer revealed that she had abortion when she was a teen in an interview with Nightline. She later gave birth to four children when she was in her 20s.

Toni Braxton
Singer Toni Braxton had an abortion in 2001, before she was married, according to her 2014 autobiography. She later had two sons, Denim and Diezel. Braxton believes that her son Diezel’s autism is punishment from God for having the abortion.

Marilyn Monroe
In his book Marilyn, Norman Mailer wrote that Monroe’s photographer, Milton Greene, says that Monroe had at least 12 abortions by the time she was 29.

Lil’ Kim
Lil’ Kim says that she had an abortion when she got pregnant by Notorious B.I.G., who was married to Faith Evans at the time.

Lucille Ball
Some of the I Love Lucy star’s close friends say that she told them she’d had an abortion. She also gave birth to two children, Lucie and Desi Arnaz, Jr.

Stevie Nicks
The Fleetwood Mac frontwoman has said that she is still haunted by her decision to have an abortion in the 1970s.

Sinead O’Conner
“Nothing Compares 2 U” singer Sinead O’Connor says that she had an abortion in Minneapolis while she was on tour.

Frida Kahlo
The painter Frida Kahlo had to have three abortions for medical reasons. She was unable to have children because her pelvis had been permanently injured in a horrible accident, in which a train hit the bus she was riding on.

Gloria Steinem
Feminist icon and activist Gloria Steinem has spoken openly about having an abortion when she was 22. Much later, at age 66, she married David Bale and became the stepmom of actor Christian Bale.

Catherine Deneuve
French actress Catherine Deneuve signed a 1971 letter, signed by 343 other women, in which they stated that they’d had illegal abortions. The document was part of the campaign to make abortion legal.
