Last year Charles Manson, 80, made headlines after he was granted permission to marry his 27-year-old fiancée, Afton Elaine Burton. Now reports have surfaced that the notorious convicted killer has called it quits because Burton was using him — for his body.
It seems that the only reason Burton wanted to marry Manson was to access his body after his death, according to a report from the New York Post. She planned to display his corpse in a glass crypt and make it available for viewing to the public.
Burton is said to have hatched the idea with the help of a friend, Craig Hammond. The two apparently expected the planned attraction to draw tourist crowds and make them rich.
Manson ended the relationship after he realized the pair was just using him for his body, and the macabre display they had in mind for his corpse.
These allegations come from journalist Daniel Simone, who shared the details with the New York Post. Simone has been in contact with the former cult leader for more than two years now, in preparation for the release of a new book about Manson.
According to Simone, Manson discovered the plan and called off the wedding—saying he “had no interest” in being displayed in a glass coffin.
“He’s finally realized that he’s been played for a fool,” Simone said. Manson also allegedly believes he is immortal, and thought the idea ridiculous because “he will never die.”
