Texas Cheerleading Squad Honors 9/11 with Emotional Performance

As the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks came and went, many honored and remembered the day that shook America. A group of high school cheerleaders from Texas performed a routine at their school pep rally that moved the audience to both tears and cheers.

The video has been shared close to 800,000 times and viewed by over 23 million people. The group of girls danced and tumbled through the gymnasium as news reports and “God Bless the U.S.A.” played. Chills rose as former President George W. Bush spoke and audio from various sources echoed.

While the cheerleaders’ 9/11 tribute has clearly gone viral and received lots of praise it has also gotten its fair share of criticisms from people saying their performance was disrespectful. According to BuzzFeed News the squad does an honorary 9/11 tribute ever year.

“We do this because we believe it is very important to honor and remember the first responders, those who gave their lives, and those who still mourn the hole left by lost loved ones,” Coach Lauren Sheffield said.
