Gillian Palacios is considering taking legal action after a police officer gunned down the family dog outside of her South Florida home.
According to WPLG-TV, the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning, after the unidentified officer knocked on their front door. He had suspected there was a crime in progress when he noticed a car in the driveway with an open door.
Security footage from outside the home shows the officer drawing his weapon and opening fire as Duchess runs out. The two-year-old bulldog mix, named Dutchess, died immediately after being shot three times in the head.
Palacious’ daughter can be seen in the footage trying to keep the dog inside before hearing the gunshots and then seeing Duchess twitching and bleeding on the walkway.
The Florida City Police Department has not released the officer’s name, though it has been reported that he is on paid administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
As you can imagine, this family is absolutely devastated by the events that unfolded that morning.
