The above video captures a chunk of a recent incident wherein a plainclothes NYPD officer apparently knocked out a black teen after stopping him for smoking a cigarette.
The boy’s family is now suing the police officer for knocking their son, 17-year-old Marcel Hamer, out with one blow, allegedly giving the boy neurological problems.
Hamer’s lawyers claim he was smoking a cigarette while walking home from school around 3:30 p.m. on June 4 when the plainclothes officer jumped out from a blue van and accused Hamer of using marijuana.
The cop then pushed him to the ground, causing Hamer’s arm to hit a nearby planter so he couldn’t move it for some time. The video picks up with Hamer lying in the gutter as he and his friends plead for mercy and handcuffs him.
“Mister, it was just a cigarette, sir,” Hamer shouts repeatedly.
“Do you wanna get f—ed up?” the officer says.
The moment the cop deals a knockout blow is obscured in the video, but he apparently punched Hamer in the face with his left hand while arresting him.
Hamer pleaded guilty to charges of disorderly conduct. The NYPD told the press Internal Affairs is investigating the incident.
