One officer with the Dover Police Department in Delaware became an overnight internet sensation after his dashcam camera caught him singing to Taylor Swift’s feel-good song, “Shake It Off.”
The Dover Police Department posted the video on their Facebook page saying:
“While reviewing dashcam footage, we came across some interesting sights to say the least. We decided to share some with you…We hope you enjoy this…and Taylor Swift if you’re watching…we’re sorry.”
The video of the officer, identified as Officer Jeff Davis, was an instant hit—it’s received over 14 million views on YouTube—but it turns out that it might not have been a completely candid moment after all. According to Mark Hoffman, a spokesman for the Dover Police Department, the video was staged.
Davis, who has been an officer with the Dover Police for 19 years, made the video as a part of the “DashCam Confessionals” web series produced by the department. The confessional videos are part of the department’s effort to show the lighter side of a day on the job.
“This was done in fun,” said Hoffman, and added that production only took about 15 minutes.
Davis’s performance got the attention of Swift, who shared the video with her 50.9 million followers on Twitter.
