Cops Accidentally Blow Up Sculpture At Art Festival

Iowa-based poet and artist, Russell Jaffe, makes “found sculptures out of discarded video game systems,” including one multimedia piece involving a broken spray-painted television and a “blood-stained antenna.” Apparently, the Iowa City Police Department thought Jaffe’s work looked more like a suspicious package than art.

Soon after successfully selling one of his sculptures at the Summer of the Arts festival, the buyer placed the work in an empty newspaper vending machine, but after a  private security officer spotted it, he called authorities, leading to the destruction of the art by the local  bomb squad.

“Having my art and poetry eviscerated by a bomb-destroying robot is the thing I realized I never knew I always wanted,” Jaffe says.
