A couple in Centerville, Pa. allegedly tattooed a 12-year-old girl with a smiley face and the word “bitch.” The girl was inked without a parent’s consent, which is illegal in the state.
Randall Charlton, 33, and Melissa Becker, 30, waived their rights on Tuesday to preliminary hearings on child endangerment and related charges.
According to The Daily Mail, on May 14 the girl visited a friend and was under the pair’s supervision in their trailer home.
When the girl saw Charlton tattooing Becker, she asked if she could also have one. She also supposedly told them that “her mother said it would be “OK for her to get a small one.” However, Crawford County prosecutors reported that the couple never contacted the girl’s mother for permission.
The Titusville Herald reports that Charlton, who is also a registered sex offender, was charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a minor.
Prior to this offense, he was convicted of sexual battery, a felony in the third degree, and for an incident that occurred in Ohio in 2000. Charlton remains in jail on a $20,000 bond.
Additionally, Becker is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, corruption of minors, simple assault and tattooing and piercing a minor.
