We’ve seen in the past that Florida can be a strange state, but this one ranks on the list of oddities: Judge John Murphy decided that throwing punches would be the best way to solve his dispute with public defender Andrew Weinstock.
As the footage taken directly from the Florida courtroom shows, Public Defender Andrew Weinstock disrespectfully addresses Judge Murphy on several occasions. Murphy, deciding he will no longer take anymore lip from Weinstock, shouts, “If I had a rock, I would throw it at you right now.”
Weinstock then responds, saying, “I’m the public defender. I have the right to be here and I have a right to stand and represent my clients.” This gets Judge Murphy even more riled up, provoking him to suggest they take the altercation outside.
The two men enter the hallway. While the footage isn’t on camera, you can hear a scuffle of some kind happening — and it doesn’t sound like they’re talking about the latest Gators game.
According to the public defender’s office, Judge Murphy allegedly grabbed Weinstock by the collar and started hitting him. A sheriff’s deputy stopped the fight, but when Murphy returned to the courtroom the entire room burst into applause. Weinstock did not return, and as of this point he has not pressed charges.
