Country Singer Missing, Friend Found Dead After Hunting Trip

Backroad Anthem singer Craig Strickland, 29, is still missing following a hunting trip that resulted in the death of his close friend Chase Morland, 22. The two men left for their outing on December 26th as a potentially dangerous storm was brewing, and what’s freaking out friends and fans right now is Strickland’s last Twitter post — an ominous retweet from Morland that joked about the two not returning alive.

“In case we don’t come back, @BackroadCRAIG and I are going right through Winter Storm Goliath to kill ducks in Oklahoma. #IntoTheStorm.” When the pair failed to return that evening, authorities searched the lake where they’d gone hunting and found their boat capsized, along with Marland’s body.

On Monday, Backroad Anthem released news to fans about Morland’s death. Then on Monday night, Strickland’s family issued a statement through the band’s Facebook page saying that the search and been called off but they were still hoping for the best. “We are trying to think of a scenario where he is still alive. Hoping against the odds,” the post read. “We can’t even stand to think about it. We are devastated. Only God and time can put us back together.”

Strickland’s wife, Helen Strickland, has been keeping fans updated via her Twitter feed. She also noted that Strickland’s dog, Sam, had been found alive. Then, last night she asked fans once again to keep her husband in their prayers.

Searches are resuming today.
