Chef Dominique Ansel rose to fame in New York City, where he served as the Executive Pastry Chef for Restaurant Daniel under celebrity chef Daniel Boulud. During his six year tenure at Daniel, the restaurant won its first 3-star Michelin rating, a 4-star New York Times review, and James Beard’s Outstanding Restaurant of the Year Award in 2010. In 2013, Chef Ansel received his own James Beard Award nomination as a finalist for Outstanding Pastry Chef at his eponymous bakery.
Ok, ok, ok, he’s a talented chef..but Chef Ansel‘s recently created something we can only describe here at FTK as the perfect food. A sweet and lovely donut falls for a flaky, crusty, French croissant. They marry, and out of their love a “cronut” is born.
A food we believe would be hated by the obesity chiefs of police, Mayor Bloomberg and First Lady Michelle Obama, a cronut is made up layers of croissant dough, deep fried and filled with cream. Flavors will change each month, but this month’s special variety is topped with rose frosting and candied rose petals. OMG!!! It’s all I want to eat for a week!
They’re not cheap at $5 each, but some things in life cost a little more, and these calorie laden sweet devils sound like they’re worth every penny.
