“Give me one of those cupcakes. Give me one of those cupcakes. With the sprinkles on top. With the sprinkles on top.”
Pure poetry, right? If you say yes, you might actually enjoy the polished hunk of musical garbage that is “Cupcakes,” by Gina Naomi Baez, the new worst song ever. The strange thing is, Baez can actually sing if given a proper song, as demonstrated in her earlier cover of “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen.
Then again, the song does come from the minds and studios of Patrice Wilson, the hellspawn that previously brought you gems like Rebecca Blacks “Friday,” or Nicole Westbrook’s “It’s Thanksgiving” to name just a couple.
In this video, Wilson breaks new lyrical ground by exploring a foodstuff instead of a day of the week or year, truly pushing her artistic boundaries while making Baez and tiny Tinkerbelle the dog look bad.
The song is truly a chore to sit through, but it’s worth it if only to see the delightfully absurd video, wherein Baez nearly drowns herself in sprinkles and shares her cupcakes with a homeless man — an inspiring message of kindness transcending class in the midst of such harsh times of cupcake shortages.
