Despite the high crime rates in South Africa, Malcolm Fox probably wasn’t expecting to pedal his way into any thieves during his cycling adventure at a frequented trail in Somerset West.
While finishing up his ride, Fox was approached by three men, one of which looked really serious and was armed with a handgun.
They made him hand over his sunglasses, car keys, cell phone and bike, but interestingly enough, they didn’t snatch his helmet with the GoPro camera mounted on top.
At first, we thought this was another of GoPro‘s clever adds. You know, like the one where a father mounts one on his baby’s head while he rides a swingset, or the little girl learning how to ride a bike without training wheels. But this time, the footage wasn’t planned.
In the video, you can see one of the muggers look directly into the camera, and yet, decided not to swipe it.
We wonder if he even knew it was a camera.
Either way, South Africa’s Citizen reports that the footage Fox’s GoPro captured ended up leading to their arrest.
