He has been buried alive, encased in a block of ice, submerged underwater for a week, and hung upside down in the air sans a safety net for 60 hours. Now David Blaine is planning his next death defying stunt and this one is literally electrifying.
The illusionist revealed on Tuesday he’ll spend three days and three nights standing in the middle of one million volts of electrical currents, channeled through by Tesla coils. As a barrier, he’ll wear a chainmail bodysuit, a wire helmet, a visor and hearing protection for his ears.
The stunt, called “Electrified: One Million Volts Always On” will begin on Friday and take place at Pier 54 on New York’s West Side. The open-to-public event allows spectators to take part by typing messages to Blaine, control the electricity and help him to stay awake…and alive.
The feat will also be streamed on youTube, courtesy of Intel and viewing stations will be set up in London, Beijing, Tokyo and Sydney where viewers will be able to control the coils as well.
So how is he getting ready for his next stunt? “I’ll mostly be relaxing, meditating and playing with my [20-month-old] daughter … and trying not to deprive myself of sleep” Blaine said.
About the stunt he added, “I don’t know how I could ever top this. [It] is an overly-ambitious idea, and I’m literally shocked that it came together. This is one of the craziest things that I ever dreamed up, and I don’t know how I could go beyond it.”
Let’s just hope he makes it beyond the weekend first. We’ll have our fingers crossed.
