Devon Still, the defensive tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals took the stage at last night’s ESPYS as he and his daughter were honored with the Jimmy V Perseverance Award. This is the devastating story of a 4-year-old who was diagnosed with cancer and her father’s struggle to maintain his career while also trying to be by her side.
There was not a dry eye in the stadium as a six minute and 30 second video played, telling the story of Leah’s battle with cancer. The footage captured the moment she was diagnosed, their pre-treatment pep talks and even the special loving moments between father and daughter. The crowd was completely silent as they watched.
In his speech following the video, Devon thanked his team who’s continuously supported him throughout this entire process. He then began to speak up for the cause and to all the children who too are battling with the deadly sickness:
“For every child out there that’s battling cancer … y’all are the real heroes, y’all never give up. I am here today to let y’all know, as long as I have this platform I’m going to continue to fight for y’all.”
