Did Ohio Replace Lethal Injection with a Device That Rips Inmates’ Heads Clean Off?

Since 1885, there have been a total of 393 people who’ve been executed by the state of Ohio. As of January 2014, there were 139 prisoners awaiting the death penalty.

However, executing inmates via lethal injection has recently come under fire, especially after the botched execution of Dennis McGuire. It took McGuire about 26 minutes to die after the intravenous chemicals flowing through his body didn’t work properly.

So, it comes as no surprise that someone would create a device to make sure the process is actually quick and painless. That’s where The Onion comes in.

They created this video to demonstrate a “more humane method of carrying out capital punishment.” In the video above, a new machine literally “yanks inmates heads from their bodies.”

Thankfully, the device isn’t real.
