Man’s best friend is a lot like man, in more ways than we might realize. And just like men and women who get on in age or up there in weight, some dogs have a significant amount of trouble going up and down stairs.
But fear not, the solution has arrived in the form of the world’s first dog stairlift, a completely functional cart that takes dogs slowly up that nasty set of stairs in your home. To see it in action, watch the video above.
The invention couldn’t come at a better time, as dog obesity is at an all-time high. According to the Daily Mail, insurance company More Than predicts half of the dogs in the UK will be overweight by 2022. Dogs who have weight problems are often subject to a strain on their backs, causing problems with their bones, skin, and respiratory system — all of these issues, of course, possibly preventing them from climbing staircases.
The dog stairlift is currently in the prototype phase, but its manufacturers are hoping it will be picked up by a large company and developed for a growing market. It even features a special paw-push button to start. Chunky, the bulldog, can be seen in the video and photo above, as he tries the dog stairlift for himself.
