Christian Audigier — the fashion designed behind the successful clothing lines Ed Hardy and Von Dutch — has passed away.
His longtime publicist Michele Elyzabeth told LATF USA: “I just heard the news and I am truly devastated. Christian was an incredibly brilliant man. He will be missed.”
TMZ had reported three months ago that Audigier was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome in January; this is the same bone disease Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts was diagnosed with back 2012.
According to The Daily Mail, the French designer began working in the fashion industry at 14 before moving to New York in his early 20s to work with brands including Guess, Levis, Diesel and Bisou Bisou.
He then teamed up with the owner of Von Dutch to propel the brand into the spotlight before breaking off in 2004 to popularize his own Ed Hardy brand.
Audigier moved on to create even more successful brands including SMET, MMA brand Pretorian and Christian Audigier. His net worth is an estimated $250million according to Celebrity Net Worth.
This is not the first tragic news related to Audigier this week. The Daily Mail Online reported that playboy fashion boss Regis Mijatovic, 45, and one of Audigier’s former business partners, was gunned down in an alleged Mafia hit as he sat eating at a restaurant in Cros de Cagnes, near Nice.
