Sticker-bombing, stencil-bombing, yarn-bombing. These days it seems like there’s a form of bombing for pretty much everything.
For those unfamiliar with the term, “bombing” is essentially a form of graffiti where participants in a certain type of bombing movement spread their art in various, mostly unexpected public spaces. Sometimes it’s to bring awareness to a cause, sometimes it’s a form of rebellion, other times it’s just fun.
The latest one we’ve come across is called eye-bombing, and it’s exactly what it sounds like: Participants go around adding eyes to inanimate objects around city streets, park benches, buildings and structures, and pretty much anywhere they see an opportunity. The point is to cleverly lend the object the appearance of a living creature. And these aren’t just any old peepers. You can’t draw them on, and they’re not plain stickers. They must to be googly eyes — that’s just the rule.
A page dedicated to spreading the movement, which also accepts submissions, states the ultimate goal is simply “to humanize the streets, and bring sunshine to people passing by.”
Judging by the above photos of the best eyebombing photos, we’d say that goal is very much being realized.
