FAT CAT ART: Woman Grieve’s Mother’s Loss with a Fat Cat and Famous Art Pieces

Russian artist Svetlana Petrova was understandably going through a difficult time in 2009, after her mother passed away and left her big orange cat in Petrova’s care.

As a grieving daughter, she didn’t immediately realize that the feline would be instrumental in helping her through the difficult time. In fact, it wasn’t until a friend suggested she process her emotions and feelings by using the pet in an art project that Petrova came up with the Fat Cat Art – a series of canvas prints featuring the fur ball in famous works of art such as American Gothic by Grant Wood.

It may be a unique way to deal with the passing of a loved one, but everyone grieves in their own way and that’s fine by us – especially when it results in creative pieces like the ones in the slideshow above.
