Father Gives Tough Love Lesson with Alcohol, Almost Kills Son

What would you do if you caught your underage child with alcohol? One Tennessee father forced his son to consume alcohol after he found him drinking, until the 15-year-old passed out, according to an Associated Press report.

The incident put the boy into grave condition—when police arrived at his home they found him unresponsive with no pulse.  The boy was given CPR until emergency responders arrived and transported him to the hospital.

WBIR-TV reports that people who were at the home at the time said the boy’s father, 35-year-old Mark Allen Hughes, made the 15-year-old play a drinking game with him while they watched a Tennessee football game. Police were told by witnesses that he made his son play because he caught the boy drinking.

It ended with the teen unresponsive on the floor, as people fought with his father to get the boy to the hospital.

Hughes has been charged with child abuse, neglect, and contributing to the delinquency of a child. Police said Hughes was intoxicated and unbalanced when they arrived on the scene, and had to be restrained from attacking witnesses.

The 15-year-old has been released from the hospital and is doing well, according to his grandmother.
