There have been a lot of public shaming via social media lately, particularly with parents posting videos of themselves disciplining their children. In some cases it seems to work, and in other cases it can backfire horrifically. Just last week we reported about a teenage girl who committed suicide after her father posted a public shaming video. As we wrote:
A 13-year-old girl in Tacoma, Washington died by suicide last week just days after she was publicly punished on the internet by her father. According to reports, Isabel Laxamana’s father Jeff uploaded a video to YouTube, in which he cut off her hair as punishment. What exactly Isabel was being punished for remains unclear.

The video above, posted on the MikeKnowsBest YouTube Channel, takes that concept head on. The real success, in our minds, is that the set up makes it appear like he’s going to give his kid a beat down — both verbally and emotionally — but then he turns the tables. He’s not only commenting to parents who post these public shaming via social media videos, but the viewers who get off on watching them. It’s a powerful message, and it’s already raising a lot of debate.
Some people think he’s way off base — that these photos and videos are a good deterrent for bad behavior. Others think he’s right on target, questioning whether or not these acts are actually used for discipline, or so that adults can feel good about their parenting skills.
