Moviegoers watching The Dark Knight Rises this weekend got a treat as Warner Bros. and DC Comics released a teaser trailer for next summer’s much-anticipated Superman movie, Man of Steel. This time the tights will be filled by Henry Cavill, from the feature film The Immortals and Showtime’s The Tudors, and while numerous photos have popped up– some official and some not– the mainstream public had never seen the son of Krypton actually flying.
There isn’t a ton of action in these pieces. In fact, the images in this post are official releases from Warner Bros. and not from the trailers. These 90-second vids exemplify the word “teaser” to a T. They’re both identical except for the voice-overs. One is voiced by Kevin Costner, who plays Clark Kent’s earthly father. The other comes from Russel Crowe, who plays Jor-El, Superman’s biological father. Both are bits of fatherly wisdom that these men bestow upon the youth who will one day be earth’s greatest hero– Superman.
There hasn’t been much talk about the Superman movie yet, as the focus has mostly been on recent super hero releases like The Avengers, Spider-man, and Batman. However, back in February of 2011 Cavill said to Entertainment Weekly that as he put on the Super-suit, “All I could think was: Oh, God. They’re going to look at me and go, ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: You’re not ready! You’re not ready!” In that same interview, however, it was revealed that Director Zach Snyder thought something very different when he spotted Cavill in the suit. “He walked out, and no one laughed,” says the director. “Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go ‘Wow.’ Okay: This was Superman.'”
