Florida Man Arrested for Drunk Driving (Get This) in a Wheelchair

DUI convictions for Ronny Scott Hicks are nothing new. He’s been caught drunk driving twice before and was convicted both times. But this situation is wholly new and very bizarre.

The 54-year-old Floridian was arrested Monday night after police in Palm Bay got reports of a man in a motorized wheelchair blocking traffic. That’s right. He was in his wheelchair, in traffic, and he’d stopped moving.

When officers arrived to the scene of the strange crime, they allegedly saw Hicks sitting in his wheelchair blocking traffic. After approaching him, officers noted that he smelled strongly of alcohol  and was slurring his words. Hicks refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Hicks was taken into custody, but he refused treatment for an open wound on his head, which had nothing to do with his um…traffic violation. He remains behind bars at the Brevard County Jail on $5,000 bond.
